New Gallery - Speedway!

I am always looking to expand my portfolio and to broaden my photographic skills, so when I was invited to watch Workington Speedway recently I jumped at the opportunity. I had watched Speedway enthusiastically as a teenager and more recently in Cornwall but strangely had never watched my local team. Workington are in the Premier League, a sort of 2nd division to the Elite League. The atmosphere was excellent, very family orientated and the racing great.
I chose what was to be quite a good position at the exit of corner 2 to shoot from and using my Nikon 70-200mm f 2.8 was able to capture some quite nice shots. I was simply amazed yet again at the very, very fast Auto Focus on the D700 (it would blow away the Canon 5D Mk 11) and the superb high ISO performance. As the ambient light fell and the flood lights were switched on I was shooting wide open at 4500 ISO. The results are truly amazing! When you remember that only 3-4 years ago no one would shoot above 400 ISO and capture anything half reasonable! I can only wonder what will be round the corner from Nikon and worryingly if I can afford it!!
Anyway thoroughly enjoyed the evening and hope to build up my Speedway portfolio and then maybe obtain permission to shoot from inside the circuit ...............

Yes I know, the site is a bit quiet. Playing with my iPad!

Yes the site is a bit quiet for a variety of reasons. I am in that part of the year when landscape photography has almost stopped due to the lack of any great light and as usual will wait until the Autumn until I start some serious landscape image making. The Settle & Carlisle steam trains are not running too regularly yet so that`s a bit quiet, but will be back down to do some more work on The North York Moors Railway soon.
Most of the work I am doing in respect to photography is all fully commercial for clients and does not play a part on this site.
So what else is going on? Well, I have owned my iPad for a few weeks now, fantastic! I rarely have the laptop on in the house using the iPad constantly. I have even started using it to present Keynote presentations; much lighter than lugging around the laptop. I am looking for a quality mini projector with LED lighting. Would love to get rid of my main projector, just a little big now!

If you are a photographer and thinking about the iPad, get one. Your portfolios will look fantastic on it and you can quickly use the device to show prospective clients. BTW, it`s lightning fast!

I have been meaning to start a new project portraying The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR), a stunning heritage railway situated amongst "Heartbeat" country and running from Pickering to Whitby.

Decided the menu layout needed a refresh. This may help new visitors. Having done global site changes such as this then requires a major upload. My internet connection here is at best variable making this a long process! I sometimes wonder why we pay for high speed Broadband when in reality it is very slow? Read More...
Site Tidy Up!

Decided to have a clear out of some of the images on the "latest Images" page. I have never truly defined the timescale relating to a "latest image" but some were no longer worthy of the "latest" tag! Anyway I have removed quite a few and may well come back to cull a few more! Am thinking of starting a site devoted to my ever growing Settle & Carlisle Railway image collection. I think this wonderful railway deserves it`s own website & where I can arrange things a little better! Time will tell!
Pre-ordered my iPad, so look forward to receiving that at the end of this month. Will use for portfolios and Keynote presentations primarily, but it will also show streamed video in a similar fashion to my iPhone. The larger screen should really make that a joy to use.
