Steve Atkinson`s 1940 BSA M20

Steve Atkinson, the owner of a 1940 BSA M20 kindly agreed to allow me to photograph her at Garsdale Station, a shoot that was timed to coincide with the arrival of LMS Stanier Class 5231.

Well the day dawned, and as I arrived at Garsdale was presented with a very strong S-SW breeze and some driving rain; all normal for a summers day in August! We were soon set up and then informed by the signalman that 5231 was delayed 90 minutes! The weather worsened but I was determined to take advantage of this great opportunity. Steve was happy to stay and a while later we were rewarded for our patience as The Sherwood Forester steamed through. This was a difficult shoot; poor light and driving rain into the lens. However I managed to capture something and I believe the shots create a timeless image that could almost have been shot 60 odd years ago. There have been changes at Garsdale and to 5231 but they are quite minor and the bike is almost as new!
Thanks to Steve, M20, 5231 and the Garsdale signalman for keeping us up to date with the progress of the train.
