KELD - our desperate fight for survival ........

Last Thursday, having become increasingly concerned about Keld, my youngest Border Collie and my very dear friend, I rang the vets and booked an immediate appointment.
Keld and Jack, my other best mate, are my constant companions; they are rarely away from my side and we live a pack existence with an all for one and one for all mentality. They are completely reliable, affectionate, honest, tolerant and loyal. I prefer their company to humans to be quite frank, but that is another story!
Over the past few months Keld had found it harder to climb into our camper van and on to the front seat next to me where he always sits. Despite numerous visits to the vets they found nothing wrong. But I knew therer was a problem. I decided to obtain an independent opinion. Having phoned my vets, Peter, the senior vet in the practice asked to see Keld. Within 20 seconds he had identified what he called muscular pain in the lower back. I was advised to give Keld 10 units of Metacam for a few days and then as necessary. That was several months ago. Over the past week or so Keld appeared to me to be in some discomfort although he was still running like crazy on the fell! He is a real athletet in every way, but I knew that things were not quite right!
Increasingly concerned I returned to the vets and was told to give Metacam every day, once a day for 5 days. There appeared to be little change in Keld`s condition and on the 5th day I returned to the vets. The senior vet asked to keep him in to do some tests, to include blood tests and another x-ray. I was advised I would not be charged for the x-ray.
After a restless day, waiting for the results I plucked up courage to ring the vets. My world was about to change unimaginably, the pack was struggling to survive and we were very, very worried!
This is our story, a story of a tight group, a pack, man and dog`s, fighting to help one of our team, a journey that will be very difficult and test the resolve of us all to immeasurable heights.
I have decded to subject the world to our story, sorry! This wil help me come to terms with things as I struggle to try and help Keld. Frankly, he and Jack are coping pretty well and it is the human that is the weak link! But, I am the Alpha male and I will fight for our pack members to the death, we will never give in!
Please join us on our journey, a journey that will pull no punches. I will try and tell it as it is, and like Jack & Keld, I will be completely open and honest. We are not after pity but please think of Keld. I am a strong believer in the power of a positive mental attitude and you can help! All you have to do is think about him positively, this will help! If you wish to send him a note please contact him here.
Thanks.
